Night Terrorist Interview

 1. Can you tell us a little bit about the musical project for those that have never heard of you before?
Night Terrorist is a "dark music" project from USA, that consists of just myself. I say "dark music" because I hope to expand beyond just typical DSBM and also push my own boundaries and make music that satisfies me, not limited to one genre. But, of course, always dark/atmospheric music. I heard Sin Nanna, of Striborg, say something along the lines of "atmosphere matters in music; nothing else." I believe in that statement 100%.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is present on the ep?
I would say DSBM with some dark ambient/noise and shoegaze influence.

3.What are some the song lyrics and concepts you have brought into your music?
My own thoughts of myself, and life in general are the main things I've written about in the past and what I'm mostly interested in expressing. I'm not very good with lyrics, so I like to create instrumental music too.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Night Terrorist?
I don't think there's really a deep meaning behind it, honestly. I can't remember exactly how it came about, but I was probably researching night terrors and Night Terrorist came of it.

5.Currently there is only 1 member in the project, do you feel the music would of sounded a lot more different if there was other band members involved?
Oh, definitely. I've thought about having other people help me create this music, and I've even worked with some artists on some (unreleased) songs. But, I've noticed that the whole idea of why I make this music to begin with, starts to get lost and it just seems to be a typical music project. Not to say I won't have help from other people, or I won't contribute to other's projects. It becomes less of a "I'll write the music when I feel inspired" thing and more of just a typical band thing. I just feel I can create my best music on my own.

6.Recently Depressive illusions put out your demo on cdr in a dvd case as well as cassette, do you feel they have done a lot to get your music heard?
Of course! I feel like that's a big reason why people even really heard my music. I didn't even know people were listening to the demo until just yesterday. I saw people had posted download links to it on their Blogspots, file-sharing sites, and I found your review too! It doesn't sound like much, but it's cool to see people listening.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of depressive black metal?
For the most part I've gotten positive feedback, mainly from people who reside in Russia. I'm still pretty new into the "scene", so there will be more feedback to come.

8.Are you involved with any other musical projects?
I've got an ambient release coming under the name Akki. Mostly piano music.

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
I want to go into a more droney, atmospheric direction, but with great melodies.

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I'd say Urfaust, My Bloody Valentine, Moloch, Verwstung and Drowning The Light are some bands who really influence me these days. I think just living and experiencing life influences me just as much, if not more, than music does. I also really like artists like Hank Williams III, Tommy Wright III, Spaceghostpurrp, Teen Suicide and Bones. I've noticed a lot of black metal artists/fans like to limit themselves musically, and only listen to certain genres. That's not for me though, I listen to what I like.

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
I like hiking, learning about technology and history, and just learning about things in general. I also like to learn about people and socialize, but I need a lot of time by myself too. Life in itself is interesting, but also shitty.

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thanks for taking interest in my project! And thanks to anyone who read this interview. I probably fucked up some spelling/grammar somewhere, but whatever. A lot of the stuff I say sounds stupid in text, but it is what it is.
