Nightside/Death From the North/Purity Through Fire/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Finland's  Nightside  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  raw,  old  school  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Death  From  The  North"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  Rain  sounds  and  keyboards  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast, raw  and  melodic  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Most  of  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  more  of  a  melodic  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  keyboards  also  return  on  later  tracks  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  as  well a s  one  song  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clear  vocals.

  On  this  recording  Nightside  goes  for  more  of  a  raw,  old  school,  melodic  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Anti  Christianity,  Darkness  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nightside  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  melodic,  old  school,  raw  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Death  From  The  North"  "There  Won't  Be  Another  Dawn"  and  "Solitude".  8/5  out  of  10.

Incipient Chaos/Self Titled/I, Voidhanger Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Incipient  Chaos  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2024  album  which  will b e  released  in  June  by  I,  Voidhanger  Records.

  A  very  fast  and r aw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals a re  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  clean  playing  is  also  added  on  the  closing  track.

  Incipient  Chaos  plays  a  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  is  very  modern  and  aggressive  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Alchemical  readings  from  people  of  the  book  and   Hermeticism  themes .  

  In  my  opinion  Incipient  Chaos  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sever  The  Oracle"  "Crumbling  Bones"  and  "All  Is  Lost_ All  Is  FOund". 8  out  of  10.

Inconcessus Lux Lucis/Temples In Colliding Flame/I, Voidhanger Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  United  Kingdom's  Inconcessus  Lux  Lucis  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  occult  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Temples  In  Colliding  Flame"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  I,  Voidhanger  Records.

  Acoustic  guitars  and  clean  playing  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a r aw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  of  the  music  also  adding  in  influences  from  other  styles  of  metal  at  times.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  a  couple  of  songs  also  being  instrumentals.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Mysticism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Inconcessus  Lux  Lucis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Am  The  Crooked  Blade"  and  "And  His  Wounds  Shall  Devour  The  Heavens".  8  out  of  10.

Decayed/The Seven Seals+Thus Revealed/Caverna Abismal Records/2024 Compilation Album Re-Issue Review

 

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  Portugal's  Decayed  which  also  shows  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  and  the  compilation  was  originally  released  in  2022  and  consists  of  1992  demo  and  1993  ep's  "The  Seven  Seals"  and  "Thus  Revealed"  which  will b e  re-issued  in  2024  on  vinyl  by  Caverna  Abismal  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them. 

  When  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  which  also  gives  the  compilation  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  aggressive  direction.

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  added  on  a  lot  of   the  earlier songs  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cove r of  Samael's  "Rise  of  Cthulhu". The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Paganism  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Decayed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should c heck  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Moon  of  A  Wolferian  Shadow"  "The  Seven  Seals"  "Awakened  By  Hate"  and  "Flesh  To  Ashes".  8  out  of  10.

Decayed/In Lustful Mayhem/Caverna Abismal Records/2024 EP Re-Issue Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  another  earlier  recording  from  Portugal's  Decayed  which  also  showed  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  and  the  ep  was  originally  released  in  1995  and  called  "In  Lustful  Mayhem"  and  will  be  re-issued  on  vinyl  in  2024  by  Caverna  Abismal  Records.

  Synths  start  off  the  ep  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  sticking  to  a  more  aggressive  direction,  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  When  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  briefly  they  also  add  in  more  of  a  ritualistic  touch  and  they  also  add  in  some  Sodom  and  Venom  covers.

  On  this  recording  Decayed  brought  out  a  very  raw  and  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  as  well  as  mixing  in  elements  of  the  first  and  second  wave  era's  of  the  genre  together.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Paganism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Decayed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Thy  Summoning"  and  "Witching  Hour".  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  an  earlier  recording  from  Portugal's  Decayed  which  showed  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  album  was  originally  released  in  1993  and  called  "The  Conjuration  of  The  Seventh  Circle"  and  will b e  -issued  on  vinyl  in  2024  by  Caverna  Abismal  Records.

  A  very  fast  and raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Synths  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  death  metal.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  bringing  in  more  of  an  aggressive  style,  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  growls  onto  the  album.

  On  this  recording  Decayed  played  a  style  of  black  metal  that  was  very  raw  and  aggressive  and  was  overlooked  since  the  main  focus  was  on  Scandinavia  at  the  time.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism,  Mythology,  Occultism,  Lovecraftian  Magick,  Left  Hand  Path  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  a  very  great  sounding  recording  from  Decayed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pagan  Winds  Return"  "Nocturnal  Prayers"  "Inquisitor's  Delight"  and  "Drums  of  Valhalla".  8/5  out  of  10.

  Morvudd  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  very  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  and  self  released  2024  ep.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody  as  well  as  all  of t he  musical  instruments  on  this  recording  sounding  very  powerful.

  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era  of  the  genre  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing.

  Morvudd  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  aggressive  and  modern  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophy,  existentialism,  spiritualism,  anthropophobia,  misery,  nature  and  death.

  In  my  opinion  Morvudd  are  a  very  great  sounding  aggressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  observer".  8 out  of  10.
